17 Feb 2023 : Safety and security plans for Workington game

Matchday arrangements have been reviewed for tomorrow's visit of Workington AFC.

We greatly appreciate all the fantastic support we have had so far this season and trust that the occasion will pass off without incident and be enjoyed by all attending.

As a result of the behaviour of some, not all, supporters of both teams at last year's corresponding fixture, the Madri van will not be open.

The bar and clubhouse will close 15 minutes before the end of the match.

Our security team, provided by Direct Detailing and Security, will be on hand to ensure everyone stays safe.

Anyone causing disorder, found to be in possession of pyrotechnics or verbally abusing volunteers/security staff will be ejected from the stadium and made the subject of a banning order.

17 Feb 2023 : Sidi leaves Linnets for Clitheroe

Sidi Sanogo Fofana has left Runcorn Linnets to join Pitching In Northern Premier League West play-off rivals Clitheroe.

Sidi, who joined in the summer from Macclesfield, made 28 Linnets appearances (including three as sub), scoring one goal.

We thank him for his efforts and wish him well for the future.

07 Feb 2023 : Former Linnets manager John King passes away

We are saddened to report tne death earlier today of ex-Linnets manager John King, one of non-league football's great players and biggest characters.

He managed our predecessor club Runcorn AFC in the mid to late 1980s, but will always be primarily associated with Altrincham, where he was an inspirational leader as both captain and boss.

John took over at Canal Street for the 1986-87 season - effectively swapping jobs with John Williams.

Williams' Linnets had taken on King's Altrincham in the 1986 FA Trophy final at Wembley with the Robins winning 1-0, breaking the stranglehold which Runcorn had established over their Cheshire rivals in meetings leading up to the big showdown.

Ironically, it was announced soon after the final that Williams was to take charge at Moss Lane - taking with him a number of senior Linnets players.

In a shock twist, King was appointed to the role vacated by Williams and over the next two years, he was to rebuild the team with a mix of established players and new faces.

Graham Heathcote, another legendary Altrimcham figure who had likewise shared in their many successes in the 1970s and early '80s, was his assistant manager.

Graham has been a regular spectator at APEC Taxis Stadium this season with his son, Sam starring in the Runcorn Linnets defence.

John King will be remembered as a colossal figure in the centre of Altrincham's midfield, who fought many a '70s battle with his Runcorn namesake and counterpart Alan King.

Altrincham were champions of the Alliance Premier League, the original title for what is now known as the Vanarama National League, in its first two seasons of 1979-80 and 1980-81.

He was the on-field driving force of those triumphs and extended his playing career, by then in its twilight, into the following season.

But Altrincham's power had started to fade. Newly-promoted Runcorn claimed the mantle of title winners in 1981-82.

King and his team-mates, however, had set the early benchmark as English semi-professional football went truly national, having always been organised on a regional basis at least in league terms.

He had also been at the heart of the Robins' giant-killing exploits, which propelled them to regular FA Cup headlines with away ties against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

An FA Trophy winner as a player in 1978, he later cut his managerial teeth at South Liverpool before going "home" to Altrincham in 1984 to begin the first of three managerial stints with the Robins.

As Runcorn manager, he masterminded an FA Cup first-round victory at Football League full-timers Chester City and contributed to a run of five successive victories in Cheshire Senior Cup finals (1985-89 inclusive).

This had started under Williams' management and was continued by Barry Whitbread, who had succeeded King in the Linnets hotseat in 1988.

John King, who hailed from Kirkby and away from football was involved in the family scaffolding business, returned to Altrincham in 1988 and then 1994 for his second and third spells as manager.

Runcorn Linnets send deepest sympathies and condolences to John's relatives and friends.

06 Feb 2023 : Linnets snap up sought-after winger Ollie McFadyen from Stockport Georgians

Winger Ollie McFadyen has joined Runcorn Linnets from Stockport Georgians, after helping them to win promotion to North West Counties Division One South for 2022-23.

Linnets have beaten a number of rival clubs for the signature of Georgians' 2021-22 Young Player of the Year, who had scored six times in 18 appearances this season.

He was, meanwhile, selected to represent Fiji at September's Oceania Football Confederation Under 19s Championship in Tahiti.

Ollie was eligible as his paternal grandfather was Fijian.

As runners-up to New Zealand, Fiji qualified for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia.

Known for his direct style of play, Ollie was previously on the books of Rochdale, Fleetwood Town and Stockport County, playing in the FA Youth Cup for the Edgeley Park club.

He also had a brief spell with Manchester City.

Linnets boss Dave Wild said: "I'm excited to get this one done.

"There have been a number of clubs at this level interested in Ollie and it's easy to see why. He's young, energetic and positive when on the ball."

Georgians confirmed Ollie's departure for APEC Taxis Stadium with a 'heavy heart but immense pride'.

They added: "Ollie's been immense for us since joining and he moves on with our absolute blessing, thanks and best wishes."

27 Jan 2023 : Price increases at matchday canteen and our licensed bars

The cost-of-living crisis has caught up with us and regrettably, we are forced to announce an increase in prices at the matchday tea bar and our licensed bars.

The cost of supplies and utility bills have both risen significantly with the prevailing economic conditions.

We have managed to absorb most of these increases in the first half of the season but now have no alternative but to review charges at points of sale.

Current profit margins are such that our efforts to operate the canteen and bars as viable concerns have been badly affected.

We hope members and supporters will appreciate that this decision has been made in the best interests of the club - as part of our efforts to provide a good-quality offering, which still represents good value for money.
