22 Sep 2017 : Ello reflects on midweek comeback ahead of home game with Abbey Hey

Michael Ellison is looking forward to tomorrow's game against Abbey Hey at the Millbank Linnets Stadium and hoping to continue the momentum of some high-scoring victories.

Linnets came from 2-0 down in midweek to defeat AFC Liverpool 5-2, Stuart Wellstead putting an earlier penalty miss behind him to score from the spot before Mark Houghton levelled going into the break.

'The lads showed great character but I never doubted it to be honest, even when we were 2-0 down,' said Ello.

'We had plenty of the ball and were creating opportunities. We didn't panic and we kept playing and ultimately forced the two goals before half-time to draw us level.

'Great bottle by Stu to step up and bury the second pen after a really good save from the 'keeper on the first one and once we got the second goal, there was only going to be one winner.'

Ello, delighted to welcome club record appearances holder Matt Atherton back into the fold after losing left back Danny McKenna to Witton Albion, admitted it had also been great to see vice-captain Mark Houghton back on the score sheet.

'I was made up for Houghto. The lad works so hard for the team and sometimes you can forget what a great goal scorer he is. He is starting to get back go full fitness and he really is a key player,' said the manager.

The boss pinpointed the support of the crowd and a fine individual display from Paul Shanley within a team frame work as being instrumental to the recovery.

'It was a great atmosphere and it really is a huge lift for the players when they can hear the fans singing.

'It's always a team effort. I thought we defended really well, apart from the penalty incident (which saw the visitors go 2-0 ahead) - especially the two centre backs against the really good front three of AFC.

'But Shanners was top drawer and after not having a pre-season through injury, he's really starting to show what a top player he is.'

The Abbey Hey game kicks off at 3pm.

16 Sep 2017 : Fallon joins Runcorn Linnets

Runcorn Linnets have landed Rory Fallon from Vanarama National League North side Curzon Ashton.

An attacking midfield player, the now 26-year-old Rory had seen a very promising career cut short by a serious knee injury while playing for FC United of Manchester.

After a 10-month lay-off from December 2015, the player was forced to call time on his successful stay at FC United as he prepared for a second operation.

In announcing the decision in October 2016, FC United described Rory as 'one of the most talented footballers the club has ever had'.

Rory's long rehabilitation saw a return to the game with Curzon who he joined in July 2017.

We are delighted that Rory will be able to continue his comeback with Runcorn Linnets and welcome him on board.
