24 Jul 2015 : Chance to win Ford Fiesta at RLFC's Millbank-sponsored Golf Day
A LUCKY golfer could drive away a Ford Fiesta car at Runcorn Linnets FC's Millbank Golf Day on Friday July 31st.
The prize is on offer to the first golfer to fire a hole-in-one at the par-three 8th during the competition sponsored by the club's main sponsor Millbank Group, a Runcorn company offering world-class recruitment solutions across a wide range of industries.
There are also great prizes for the winning, runner-up and third-placed teams plus attractive cash prizes for aces at some other holes and prizes for nearest the pin on various greens.
The event for teams of four has so far attracted 15 confirmed entries ahead of this Sunday's closing date with players from past and present joining corporate entrants and teams led by club officials and supporters.
Club manager, Joey Dunn will be joined by Linnets first teamers, striker Freddie Potter and goalkeeper Richie Mottram with Mottram's dad Richie Snr (equally well known at the Millbank Linnets Stadium and Runcorn GC) completing the boss's team.
Terry Murphy, successful national title-winning assistant manager of the original Linnets, Runcorn AFC in the early 1980s will also be teeing off while a couple of players from the former club's 1990s Wembley appearances are also participating.
The tournament will generate important funds for the North West Counties League club, who are also organising a Golf Day raffle to be drawn at the presentation dinner in the Clifton Road clubhouse.
Organised by club vice-chairman Hedley Edwards, co vice-president Stuart White and Trust members Kel Hoose and Ste Bignall, the competition has attracted valued interest from a number of businesses in Runcorn, Merseyside and the North West.
Competing corporate teams include:
Burton Beavan - Accountancy Practice, Northwich
Kelfin - Local independent Accounting Services
Flextronics Limited - Warrington-based worldwide electronics design, fabrication, assembly and test company

Fibre Drums Limited - Packaging company Haydock
ABB - Worldwide engineering company with HQ in Daresbury
Allsportvi – Liverpool-based national sports insurance company. Enrichment Technology, Capenhurst.
A number of other companies and individuals have donated prizes and sponsored individual holes. Club officials and supporters will be out on the course to steward the event, provide competitors with refreshments and invigilate.
Millbank, title sponsor of the event, is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2015 and has been the club's main sponsor since the Linnets returned to Runcorn five years ago to make their home at The Millbank Linnets Stadium in Murdishaw.
The company, based at Millbank House, Northway (next to Runcorn Shopping Centre) provides bespoke permanent and contract staffing solutions in industries including power & energy, oil & gas, chemical, automotive, water & utilities, rail, built environment, nuclear, pharmaceuticals and business support.
Derek Greenwood, chairman of Runcorn Linnets, said: "Millbank's support as main club sponsors since we returned to the town in 2010 to play at The Millbank Linnets Stadium has been nothing short of fantastic.
"Their backing has helped us to grow and develop as a club with a successful first team, a fast-emerging ladies team and thriving junior section putting us right at the heart of the community.
"We are delighted that they are sponsoring our Golf Day and look forward to an excellent day's golf and what I am certain from past experience will be superb post-match hospitality from Runcorn Golf Club at the 19th hole.
"We also appreciate the involvement of club officials, management, players from past and present and fans through organisation, volunteering and playing.
"Our thanks go to all those companies and individuals who are contributing through playing or sponsorship - many of the firms involved are long-time supporters of the club and their backing is, as ever, most welcome."

21 Jul 2015 : Runcorn lose to Curzon Ashton 0-4
Runcorn conceded twice in each half at The Millbank Linnets Stadium as Curzon Ashton showed the ability and style which earned them promotion to National League North at the end of last season.
Both sides showed a willingness to play good football on a lush-looking pitch but the Tamesiders were always too strong - also hitting the woodwork three times before the break, firing a penalty kick against a post.
Runcorn offered more of an attacking threat in the second half but could not find a breakthrough against a resolute visiting defence.
Freddie Potter was denied a penalty when fouled twice in quick succession inside he box, Frannie Smith struck the crossbar with a shot while Mark Houghton might also have scored after determined work by Kurt Sherlock but a spinning ball made it difficult for him to control his effort.
We wish the players, officials and fans of Curzon Ashton well for the forthcoming season and now look forward to the visit of Mossley this Saturday as our pre-season campaign continues.
17 Jul 2015 : Runcorn win 2-0 at Northwich Manchester Villa
Runcorn Linnets secured their first pre-season victory at the second attempt with a 2-0 Friday night friendly success against Northwich Manchester Villa of NWCL Division One at Manchester Regional Arena.
Kyle Hamid gave the visitors an interval lead after they had been awarded a free-kick late in the first half for the home goalkeeper picking up from a back pass.
Half-time changes saw the introduction by Runcorn of numerous trialists, one of whom was presented with a simple tap-in from a defensive mistake to double the lead.
The game, staged in the shadow of Manchester City's Etihad Stadium, provided a good workout for Joey Dunn's side.
Runcorn Linnets thank the officials of Northwich Manchester Villa for their warm welcome and excellent hospitality while wishing them success in the season ahead.
16 Jul 2015 : Linnets mourn veteran fan Marian Rhodes, 98
Runcorn Linnets Football Club are deeply sorry to have read in today's Runcorn Weekly News of the death of probably our oldest (and most remarkable) fan, 98-year-old Marian Rhodes.
Mrs Rhodes will be particularly fondly remembered by many supporters as a regular on the Linnets Travel Club in the early 1980s, when she was accompanied to away games by her grandson, Ian.
She had retained a strong interest in the Linnets on the formation of the new club, attending a number of games at The Millbank Linnets Stadium.
In September last year, as a 98th birthday treat, Mrs Rhodes made her way with Ian to our North West Counties League game at Silsden in West Yorkshire, where home club officials were amazed not only that she had made the trip but also that she looked so sprightly.
The funeral service is at 12.30pm on Monday, July 20th at St John's Church in Weston Village, Runcorn, and will be followed by cremation at Walton Lea. All enquries to Findlow's funeral directors, tel 01928 564020.
All at Runcorn Linnets FC join in sending our deepest sympathies to Mrs Rhodes's family on their very sad loss.
