Earlier today a Cheshire County FA Disciplinary Commission heard a claim of wrongful dismissal from Runcorn Linnets following the red card shown to Matt Atherton in last weekend's home game against 1874 Northwich. The club has now been notified by the County FA that the appeal has been upheld with the suspension and fine both being removed. The sending off remains on the player's record in line with the rules of the appeal system.

Runcorn beat 1874 Northwich in the North West Counties Premier League at The Millbank Linnets Stadium with a score of 3-2. Kevin Towey scored for the Linnets in the 12th minute with a coolly taken shot from inside the 6 yard box. 1874 Northwich equalised in the 28th minute. 1874 Northwich went ahead in the 51st minute. Michael White equalised in the 78th minute with a penalty that was placed firmly into the top left hand corner of the net. Athers sent off, along with the 1874 number 6 and 10 in the 85th. Freddie Potter put the Linnets ahead in the 88th minute by throwing himself at the ball in the 6 yard box.
