07 Feb 2015 : Runcorn beat AFC Blackpool 3-2
Runcorn beat AFC Blackpool in the North West Counties Premier League at The Millbank Linnets Stadium with a score of 3-2. AFC Blackpool went ahead in the 14th minute. Michael White equalised in the 23rd minute with a penalty that was placed firmly into the bottom left hand corner of the net. AFC Blackpool went ahead in the 34th minute. Freddie Potter equalised with a fantastic header from a corner in the 82nd minute. Freddie Potter put the Linnets ahead in the 88th minute with a dipping shot from just outside the box. Match Report
24 Jan 2015 : Runcorn beat Nelson 2-1
Runcorn beat Nelson in the North West Counties Premier League at The Millbank Linnets Stadium with a score of 2-1. Martin Crowder put the Linnets ahead in the 39th minute with a great strike from inside the area. Nelson equalised in the 51st minute. Mark Houghton scored for the Linnets in the 81st minute with a shot that went under the 'keeper from inside the 6 yard box. Match Report Pictures
20 Jan 2015 : Ken Furphy - former Linnets player, who managed Pele - dies at 83
A Linnets player of the 1950s, who went on to manage in the top flight of English football and also in the United States, has died aged 83.
In the mid-1970s, Ken Furphy had a spell in charge of New York Cosmos, where his charges included Pele.
Teesside-born Ken, a full back, joined Runcorn AFC in 1951 from Everton and spent two years at Canal Street before embarking on a career which would see him make more than 500 Football League appearances with Darlington, Workington and Watford, also managing the latter two clubs.
He subsequently led Watford to the old Division Two title and also into the 1970 FA Cup semi-finals, with shock wins over Stoke City and Liverpool along the way, before bowing out to eventual winners Chelsea.
He went on to manage Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United. Under Furphy, the Blades in 1975 finished sixth in Division One which was then the top division of English football.
On leaving New York Cosmos, Ken managed Miami Toros, Detroit Express and Washington Diplomats. He was also a one-time boss of the Bermuda national team.
He spent retirement in Devon but remained actively involved in football with a brief term as technical director at Exeter City. He also did some commentary work for BBC Radio Devon.
13 Jan 2015 : Runcorn lose to Runcorn Town 0-2
Runcorn lost to Runcorn Town in the Cheshire Senior Cup at The Millbank Linnets Stadium with a score of 0-2. Athers in goal to replace injured Ryan in 40th. Runcorn Town went ahead in the 66th minute. Runcorn Town increased their lead in the 72nd minute. Match Report
12 Jan 2015 : Linnets join tributes to Alan Farnworth
RUNCORN Linnets are deeply saddened to have leaned of the death over the weekend of North West Counties League life member and former vice-chairman, Alan Farnworth.
Alan was a considerable help to club during its formative period and his loss will be felt by a great many friends and colleagues throughout the NWCL with which he had been involved since the 1980s.
He was initially secretary of Bolton St Thomas's before serving Atherton Collieries in the same capacity. He relinquished his club role in 1992-93 to join the league management committee.
Despite long-standing health problems, Alan kept in close touch with league affairs and many deserving tributes are being paid to his major contribution to North West Counties football.
Runcorn Linnets send condolences to Alan's family at this sad time.
