08 Nov 2014 : No elections but new Trust Board member at Runcorn Linnets

NOMINATIONS for places on the Trust Board closed on Thursday with five candidates applying for the handful of vacancies in the latest two-year cycle – meaning no elections will take place in 2014.

However, there is to be a "new" face on the 12-strong board in John Pickering, who will already be known to some at the club as coach of our ladies team and also head of football development within the Linnets' junior section.

John will early next month succeed John Greenhalgh, who has opted not to stand for the board this time due to family commitments.

The four other board members, who were retiring by rotation, all put their names forward for re-election and are returned unopposed to serve until December 2016.

Ciaran Clotworthy, Hedley Edwards, Rob Johnston and Steve Pritchard, like John Pickering, each submitted applications that complied with the club's constitution and its election policy. In these circumstances, and where there are as many (or fewer) candidates to vacancies, re-election is automatic – again in line with the aforementioned club rules and guidelines.

The election of all five will be officially announced at the Annual General Meeting of Runcorn Linnets Football Club Limited on Thursday, December 4th at the Millbank Linnets Stadium and will take effect once they then sign the club's Board Membership and Conduct Policy.

This is one of the side policies introduced as an accompaniment to the new club constitution, which was adopted by the membership at last year's AGM and approved by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) earlier this year. All board members, including those not due to seek re-election until 2015, will now also be asked to sign this policy for the first time.

John Pickering, while being very active in the ladies' and junior set-ups, has also been extremely supportive of the senior club's fundraising activities - readily volunteering at events such as our Car Boot Sale. He is an FA Level 2 coach and FA Level 2 goalkeeping coach and also mentors within the club.

While welcoming John onto the board and wishing him success in his new role, Runcorn Linnets also place on record our thanks to John Greenhalgh for his valued contribution as a board member. We look forward to continuing to see John and his family at Runcorn Linnets games, both home and away.

The election statements provided by the candidates will be available to view at the forthcoming AGM or can be obtained by individual members on request.
