26 Sep 2014 : Runcorn Linnets highly commended in Halton Sports Awards
RUNCORN Linnets earned further recognition for our contribution to local sport when we were honoured in the Halton Sports Awards.
The accolade came in the Club of the Year category, following on from our success earlier in 2014, when we were crowned Cheshire's Charter Standard Club of the Year in the FA Community Awards supported by McDonalds.
The latest award was presented at the annual awards dinner hosted by Halton Sports Partnership at Select Security Stadium Halton, Widnes.
Linnets chairman Derek Greenwood accepted a commemorative trophy and certificate from Mayor of Halton, Councillor Shaun Osborne, who presented the award on behalf of category sponsors Best Sports Ltd.
Mention was made of the club's successes and progress including the growth of our junior section, the recent integration of Halton Girls FC taking the junior playing membership alone well beyond the 300 mark.
This is the second time in three years that the club has been recognised in the Halton awards. In 2012, Trust board members Lynn and Rob Johnston won the Volunteer of the Year prize.
Mr Greenwood said: "We are very proud of the major strides we have taken in the eight years since formation and this is further recognition for the efforts of everybody involved with the club as we continue to develop.
"The Halton Sports Awards highlight the all-round strength and prosperity of sport in the borough.
"Our congratulations go to Halton Swimming Club as the main prize winners in our category, on account of some outstanding achievements at local, regional, national and international levels."
