27 Jan 2014 : Linnets and Runcorn Framers raffle shirt in aid of Cavendish School
The raffle is being run in association with town centre business Runcorn Framers, who have framed a replica Linnets home shirt signed by the club's 2013-14 playing squad as the prize.
Proceeds will be in aid of Cavendish High School , the North West Counties League club's official charity for this year.
The winning ticket will be drawn at the Linnets' end-of-season presentation evening in May.
The idea for the fundraiser resulted from the club commissioning Runcorn Framers to produce this season's official team photograph for their clubhouse wall.
Dave Bettley, the Linnets' Trust secretary, said: "Chris and Sara Jones of Runcorn Framers were delighted to get the order from us and while we were sorting out the details, Chris pointed out that they had in their window a shirt signed by Steven Gerrard.
"He remarked that instead of a Liverpool or Manchester United jersey, it would be nice to see a Runcorn Linnets shirt on display and he asked if we could let the shop have one to frame up.
"As the conversation developed, we decided it would be good if we could raise money for our chosen charity by raffling the shirt once it had been in the shop window."
Trust members attending Runcorn Linnets' 2013 AGM in December plumped for Cavendish School in Lincoln Close, Runcorn, as the club charity for 2014 at the suggestion of the Linnets' Trust Board.
The club wanted not only to highlight the school's importance in the community but also recognise the contribution of match day volunteer, supporter and Trust member Jason Pilkington, who has come through the education system at Cavendish.
Cavendish opened in 1976 as the first purpose-built school in Cheshire for 2-19 year olds with severe learning difficulties.
Over the years, it has seen many changes, the biggest in 2006 when it was re-designated to cater for 11-19 year olds with severe, profound and complex learning difficulties, including those with autistic spectrum disorder.
Runcorn Linnets were formed in the same year as a not-for-profit community club run by their fans. The club's first team and ladies' side play at the Millbank Linnets Stadium in Murdishaw, Runcorn, and all junior age group matches take place on outside pitches at the same site.
Runcorn Framers, in Regent Street, offer a bespoke framing service with 35 years' experience in the trade.
Chris Jones said: "As an established Runcorn business, we are very pleased to link up with Runcorn Linnets to raise money for Cavendish School and hope people will come along to the shop to see the shirt which is to be raffled and hopefully buy a ticket for this very worthy cause in the town."
Tickets, priced at £1 for a strip of five, are also available from Runcorn Linnets FC.
