30 Sep 2013 : The George Worrall Memorial Trophy

One of the main end-of-season awards at Runcorn Linnets is to be renamed in memory of a footballing stalwart in the town.

Since George Worrall's death in February in his 89th year, the club has been looking for a suitable way of reflecting his long and distinguished service to Runcorn AFC.

Club secretary for all three of the former club's Wembley trips in FA Trophy finals, George had also been its reserve team chairman and was later club president.

Linnets considered several suggestions from members and supporters about how his contribution to the Linnets across four decades could best be honoured.

We can now confirm that the first-team Player of the Year trophy will from this season onwards be known as the The George Worrall Memorial Trophy - thus ensuring long-lasting recognition for George's considerable efforts.

George's family were most grateful for the gesture and his son Nick Worrall is being invited to present the trophy at our annual awards evening.
