The Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), supporters of the Football Foundation, and the largest funder of non-league football in the country, today announced a grant of £5,963 to Runcorn Linnets FC.
The funding will allow Runcorn Linnets FC to erect added covered accommodation to improve even further the excellent facilities at the Millbank Linnets Stadium. The new construction will comprise of two extra covered areas on the dug-out side of the ground and it is hoped the work will be completed by the start of July in time for the new season.
Funded with £6m each year from the Premier League, the FSIF is the country’s largest provider of grants towards projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower league football grounds in both the professional and amateur game. These improvements range from new football stands and turnstiles to floodlighting and improved provision for disabled supporters.
Derek Greenwood, Chairman of Runcorn Linnets FC, said: “We are very grateful to the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, the local area forum of Halton Borough Council and fans’ donations for helping us provide the additional facilities.
“The stadium is well used by the local community and the Cheshire FA regularly hold cup finals there. We will continue with our policy of continual development to ensure that our fans and the community have a stadium to be proud of.”
Peter McCormick, FSIF Chairman, said: “I am delighted that my colleagues and I have been able to award this grant to Runcorn Linnets FC to allow them to improve facilities at the Millbank Linnets Stadium.
“FSIF staff work hard to make sure that the funding that is generously provided by the Premier League each year goes as far as possible and benefits as many clubs and supporters as it possibly can.”
