07 Mar 2012 : Damien Eastham is Goalkeeper of the Month
Congratulations to Damo, who has scooped February's Goalkeeper of the Month award.
Damien made an impressive return to Linnets’ starting line up at the start of February, after being out of the side through injury for almost four months. A return from injury is never an easy time for a goalkeeper, and Damien had a difficult task in his return match against Maine Road, the first time he had kept goal since a hand injury sustained at Stone in mid-October. Damien gained in confidence throughout the match, and his smart save from Declan O’Neill ensured the spoils were shared in a 2-2 draw. His next game saw him keep a clean sheet in his side’s 6-0 win over Eccleshall in the League Challenge Cup, but again the result could have been much different had the keeper not made two sharp stops either side of half time, his parry from Nathan Cotterell deserving special praise. Damien took this confidence to Edge Green Street, where he showed his speed off the line on numerous occasions as St Helens Town swept in numerous long balls behind the Linnets defence, and he kept another clean sheet as Linnets won 1-0. In his final game of the month, Damien had little chance as Colne took a deserved lead at the Millbank Linnets Stadium, but again showed an assurance that helped the Linnets to all three points. He also showed his credentials as an outfield player, taking on a few of the Colne players in a mazy dribble, before laying on a deft pass out to the flanks! Damien played really well throughout the month and was an integral part of the run that saw Linnets end the month unbeaten.
