26 Feb 2012 : Linnets physios visit Alder Hey Hospital

The Runcorn Linnets physios are
photographed at the hospital with Spencer.
When Runcorn Linnets hosted AFC Liverpool at the Millbank Linnets Stadium recently, Linnets physio Jenny Leyland struck up a conversation with a young gentleman called Spencer, who attended the match in a wheelchair, accompanied by his dad and a nurse. Jenny learnt that Spencer was a patient in Alder Hey Hospital, having spent almost 2 years there. He was, however, hoping to be discharged home soon with the help of carers. Jenny showed the group round the club and the physio and changing rooms before they watched the game.

Prior to the match, Spencer’s dad had asked if a programme could be signed for him as a souvenir, but at the end of the game, Jenny realised that the group had had to leave immediately due to the cold weather. After speaking to the club Chairman, Jenny requested a signed ball from the club which the players were delighted to sign. The following week, along with her assistant physios, Liz and Craig, Jenny paid a visit to Alder Hey Hospital to visit Spencer and to take along the signed ball and programme. When they arrived at the hospital, they were taken to see Spencer and met with his gran. Spencer was delighted to receive the gifts and gave everyone a big smile. His gran said it was a while since he had given such a big smile. Spencer will be 18 later in the year and jenny is hoping to keep in contact by visiting at his home.
