Match Report

26 Sep 2011 : September - a League free zone

It can't happen very often that a team can go for a whole month without playing a league match, especially when there is no interference from the weather, but that's what has happened to the Linnets. With two FA Cup ties requiring replays, two FA Vase successes, and a Cheshire Senior Cup fixture, there has been no room for any league matches in the month of September.

This leaves the club in the unusual position of lying 14th in the table, despite being unbeaten in any of their 5 matches so far. No other teams have played as few matches as the Linnets, with Silsden and Squires Gate having played the next fewest games with 7 matches a piece, but Padiham have managed to play over a quarter of their league matches already with 13 matches under their belts.

Runcorn take on EvoStick outfit Warrington Town at the Millbank Linnets Stadium in the Cheshire Senior Cup on Tuesday 27th September where we hope to maintain the season's unbeaten record before taking the long trip to Hebburn, in the North East, for the FA Cup Second Round Qualifying fixture on Saturday 1st October.

The Northwest Counties Website is carrying a nice article about the start to our season and Paul McNally's first year in charge at the club. It is available here.

25 Sep 2011 : Player News

Paul McNally has signed two new midfield players from Skelmersdale. It's a welcome return for Phil Mooney who had a spell with the Linnets in the 2010/2011 season, and he is joined by Daniel Smith. Neither are eligible to play in Tuesday's Cheshire Senior Cup match as players need to have signed before the original fixture date to be able to play.
