17 Jul 2010 : Runcorn lose to Witton Albion 1-3

Witton Albion played party poopers at the first ever fixtures to be played at the Millbank Linnets Stadium. After a resounding win in the U13s curtain raiser, the senior team won 3-1.

The Ground was officially opened by Linnets Chairman, Derek Greenwood, with various invited guests cutting the ceremonial ribbon, including ex-players and officals, local MPs, Council representatives, and club sponsors Millbank Group in front of a bumper crowd of 1037.

Witton opened their account in the 6th minute, much to the disappointment of the home fans. Runcorn were unable to reply until Michael Case directed a low header into the Witton net in the 37th minute. Half time saw both teams level at 1-1.

In the second half visitors upped the pace, and in the 57th minute, a lack of a clearance from Runcorn for what what seemed like an age, left the opportunity open for Witton to poke the ball home. The match was sealed in the 79th minute with a well taken free-kick from 19 yards out.

Pictures of the opening are available here.
