After a lively start from both teams, it looked as though Silsden had Runcorn pegged as half time came around with neither team ahead. However, a handball in the area gave Paul Crewe to put the Linnets ahead from the spot in the 54th minute, and he duly obliged. The amassed left and right side ultras almost blew a gasket when another hand ball incident was, this time, waved on as chest contact by the Referee in the 60th minute, but ten minutes later it was Crewe again who hit the back of the net with a ball that looked as though it was never going to get to there, but the gasps from behind the net practically sucked it in...

What followed were potentially the most nerve wracking 20+ minutes of the club's short history until the final whistle was blown, and there was julibation amongst the travelling Yellow and Green as it sank in that the club had beaten Silsden 3-2 on aggregate, and were on their way to the final at Wurzon.

Despite taking the lead in the 14th minute, Robbie Holcroft saving a penalty in the 50th, and a gutsy performance, Runcorn were unable to prevent New Mills taking three points following a couple of defensive slip-ups resulting in a pair of goals for the visitors.
