22 Feb 2009 : Fylde Captain - Update

We've had a message from the Fylde Manager about their Captain, Dougie Shaw, who suffered an injury and was taken to hospital during the match on 21st Feb:

"Dougie's out of hospital. He's still sore, but there are no dislocations. It maybe a trapped nerve. I'd just like to thank your stewards and staff for looking after him, and I wish you all the best in the cup."

Fylde would also like thank to Linnets fans for their concern, and messages of support for Dougie, and we'd like to reiterate our wish for a full and speedy recovery for him.

21 Feb 2009 : Runcorn beat AFC Fylde 3-1 AET

In a match that suspended for an hour after 8 mins following a back injury to Fylde's Captain, Dougie Shaw, Runcorn beat the league leaders AFC Fylde 3-1 after extra time in the Vodkat LEague Challenge Cup. It's not clear what happened to the Fylde Captain, whether he was injured as he twisted, or whether he fell awkwardly, but he suffered a back injury and an ambulance was called. After a number of ambulances were called away to "life threatening emergencies", one finally arrived at Wincham park after around 30 minutes, and a further 20 minutes were taken to get Shaw to the ambulance. Everybody at Runcorn Linnets hopes he makes a full and speedy recovery.

The match restarted after almost an hour, and it looked like neither team were likely to get that all important first goal. It wasn't until the 81st minute that Fylde managed to pull ahead, giving their fans hope of another cup victory over the Linnets, but Clive Brown equalised within seconds of the kick-off, and the score remained 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Neither team were able to pull ahead in the first half of extra time, but Clive Brown put the Linnets ahead 2 mins into the second 15 minutes of extra time. Despite Fylde coming back strongly, Rob Whyte sealed the deal 5 minutes later with a cracking strike into the back of the net.

20 Feb 2009 : New Signing - Barry Shuttleworth

The club are happy to announce that they have signed left back, Barry Shuttleworth, whose has previously played for Altrincham. We'd like to welcome Barry to the club, and wish him well.
