As was exclusively revealed by Steve Wilkes on the Sunday Sports Show on HCR on 14th September, Nehru McKenzie has signed as the club's very first contract player.
13 Sep 2008 : Dave Thompson to Warrington Town
Dave Thompson is following cousin, Thomas Lamb, from the Linnets to Warrington Town. The club would like to thank Dave for his efforts on the pitch since he joined the Linnets at the very start in 2006, and wish him well at his new club.
13 Sep 2008 : Runcorn draw with Ramsbottom United 2-2
Despite playing 78 minutes with 10 men, Runcorn managed to hold onto a 2-1 lead until the 79th minute.
Steve Pickup opened the scoring in the 2nd minute. Brian Walsh sent off for handling the ball on the line in the 12th minute, and Ross Boyd, despite going the right way, was unable to stop the well struck penalty.
In the 28th minute Michael Morrison's strike was stopped, then helped in by a Ramsbottom defender, and the score stayed at 2-1 into the break.
Ramsbottom didn't give up, and in the 79th minute their efforts were rewarded with an equaliser to bring the score to 2-2. With just two minutes to go, the Ramsbottom captain received his second yellow card of the match, and was dismissed leaving both teams with just ten men on the park.
10 Sep 2008 : Ground fund hits £60k
Today, the Ground Fund total has hit just over £60,000. A big thank you to everybody who has contributed. It's a fantastic achievement in just over 6 months since the Ground Fund was officially launched.
09 Sep 2008 : Runcorn lose to Newcastle Town 4-0
The Linnets we missing a number of regulars in a match that started as though they would have the upper hand. Missing players like Dave Thompson and Michael Young due to work commitments, Scott Dignan visiting his ill father, whom we wish well, and Jay Edwards suffering with his ankle after Sunday's match, in addition to the already missing Steve Cunningham, and suspended Nehru McKenzie, it was a slightly different Linnets side than the faithful were used to seeing.
The first half an hour looked as though it was just a matter of time before the Linnets went ahead as Runcorn were making most of the chances, but with Newcastle looking dangerous on the break. Unfortunately, Newcastle managed to put themselves ahead in th 34th minute, and Runcorn couldn't find a reply.
Further goals in the 74th, 79th, and 89th minutes left the scoreline at 4-0 which flattered the home side a little, and will undoubtedly send out misleading indications of the Linnets' promotion prospects.
