07 Sep 2008 : Barry Corless joins the Trust Board

Following the recent resignations of Tony Waddington, and Glyn Davies from the Trust Board, Barry Corless, as the unsuccessful candidate at the last elections with the highest number of votes, was invited to join the Board. We are happy to say that Barry has accepted the invitation, and will remain in office until the AGM in December, where he, along with existing Board members who were not voted for last year, will have to stand down, and put themselves forward for re-election if they choose to do so.

Simon Charlesworth, who was the second most popular unsuccessful candidate at the elections last year has taken up the role of Deputy Trust Secretary until the AGM in December, and so will not be joining the Board.

07 Sep 2008 : Runcorn beat Padiham 4-3 AET in FA Vase

In a value for money match, that saw seven goals, and extra time, the Linnets continue to the next round of the FA Vase having beaten Padiham 4-3.

Padiham opened the scoring in 16th minute, but an equaliser from Michael Morrison nine minutes later levelled the score. Jay Edwards put the Linnets ahead in 34th, but Padiham levelled the score again just two minutes later, and so it was 2-2 as they went into the break.

Michael Morrison got his second in the 50th, and again Padiham equalised, this time in the 75th minute, with the score at 3-3, the match went into extra time.

Lee Morris put the Linnets ahead in the 10th minute of extra time, but this time Padiham had no answer, despite a blinding shot hitting the crossbar. As they got more frustrated, Padiham had two men dismissed in separate incidents within 5 minutes of the final whistle.

30 Aug 2008 : Linnets out of FA Cup

Despite looking the sharper team out of the blocks, and enjoying most of the early posession, the 16th minute goal from Curzon Ashton set the Linnets up for a 4-0 defeat andquashed any hoped of progressing further in our first FA Cup competition. Hopes were raised in the 20th minute that Dave Thompson would level things up with a penalty shot, but it wasn't to be, as it bounced of the inside of the left post. Further goals from Ashton in the 26th, 55th, and dying minutes of the match probably flattered the hosts a little, but the Linnets made too many mistakes, perhaps over-trying, to turn the tables.

There's always the Vase...

25 Aug 2008 : Runcorn beat New Mills 0-2

Normal service is resumed with a gutsy 0-2 win over New Mills. Stuart Telfer scored in the 42nd minute to give the Linnets the lead into half time. In the second half, substitute, Ged Courtney, who had only been on for a matter of seconds, replacing Dave Thompson, scored the Linnets' second goal in the 72nd minute.

Despite New Mills piling on the pressure in the last 15 minutes, Runcorn stood firm and held onto their lead.
