23 Aug 2008 : Runcorn lose to Colne 1-5

A sending off for 'keeper and Assistant Manager Robbie Holcroft, combined with a lacklustre performance from most other areas saw Runcorn lose their way from 1-1 at half time to 1-5 by the final whistle.

Colne got off to a good start with a goal in the 8th minute, but Runcorn looked keen to turn the tables, and Michael Young equalised 20 mins later, and that's how the score remained through to half time.

Robbie Holcroft was sent off in the 58th minute for bringing one of the visiting players down, and Colne scored from the resulting penalty. Colne made it 1-3 in the 72nd minute, and then were awarded another penalty in the 85th minute, this time from the actions of replacement 'keeper, Ross Boyd, who was judged to have brought down another Colne player. This time it was just a yellow card as punishment, along with the resultant goal, making it 1-4. Colne got a 5th goal two minutes from the final whistle.

20 Aug 2008 : In Memory of Dave Grundy

As many of you will know, the club sadly lost a popular fan when Dave Grundy passed away a couple of weeks ago. Dave was a regular traveller on the Travel Club minibus, and the other regulars have clubbed together and purchased a brick in his memory. The players, upon hearing of this, thought this was a fitting tribute to Dave, and have done the same.

17 Aug 2008 : Runcorn beat Rossington Main 3-2

Runcorn won their Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup against Rossington Main 3-2. An initial spell of around 20 minutes saw neither side make much of an impression, despite Runcorn having most posession. It wasn't until the 32nd minute, when Dave Thompson put the Linnets ahead, did it look like Runcorn were going to capitalise on their superiority. Just six minutes later Michael Morrison scored his first goal for the club, and another six minutes after that Nehru McKenzie gave the Linnets their third.

In the second half Rossington put up a much stronger performance, and were rewarded with a goal in the 61st minute. They made a number of chances throughout the half, and managed toscore from a corner in the 89th minute after a good shot had to be pushed over the top by Robbie Holcroft.

Fortunately, the final whistle came before Rossington could apply any more pressure and force a replay, and the Linnets secured their first ever FA Cup Competition victory.
