W.S.R. Recycling have created a bit of a stir with their sponsorship of the club's shirts and shorts. Especially the shorts.

The cheeky positioning and style of the logo on the shorts has resulted in a few chuckles, and has brought a smile to a few faces, and has been a topic of discussion on both the terraces, and in the club's forum. With efforts to get coverage of the unorthadox logo on Soccer AM underway, the shorts may well get national exposure.

12 Aug 2008 : Press Release - FA Cup

The club has issued a press release about its upcoming FA Cup match against Rossington Main FC.

Runcorn Linnets FC are to play in their very first FA Cup match since they were formed in 2006 following the demise of the old Runcorn AFC. The Extra Preliminary Round tie against South Yorkshire outfit, Rossington Main FC, is to be played on Sunday 17th August, at Wincham Park, Witton, with a 3:00pm kick-off.

The history of the Linnets over the years in the FA Cup has been very impressive. The last appearance in the proper rounds of the competition was in 2002/3 when they held Bristol Rovers to a 0-0 draw away from home, only to narrowly lose the replay at the Halton Stadium. In total, the Linnets have reached the proper rounds of the competition a total of 21 times since the war, but the best ever performance remains the 1938/39 game versus then cup holders Preston North End.

Chairman, Derek Greenwood, said “Everyone at the club is looking forward to the game on Sunday. Rossington Main are rather an unknown quantity, who play on the North East Counties League Division 1. The FA Cup has meant much to the club over many years and I hope the fans will turn out to support the team in its attempts to progress in the competition”

Rossington Main have struggled to make an impression in the competition over recent years, and their best performance was an appearance in the 2nd qualifying round in season 2002/03. They do boast a number of players who have gone on to play in the professional game, including a number for local team, Doncaster Rovers, so the Linnets will have to ensure they are at their best to make progress. In the event of a draw after 90 minutes on Sunday, the replay will be held at Rossington on Tuesday, 19 August, with a 7.45pm kick off.

Mr Dave Bignall from Runcorn is the latest winner of the Runcorn Linnets tote. Dave scoops this weeks jackpot of £270.00, and he buys his tickets at one of the luckier Tote locations; The Navigation in Canal Street Runcorn. He's the second winner from the Inn that's on the same street as the Linnets original home, which brings it level with this year's shirt sponsor, The Waterloo Hotel, which also boasts two Tote winners.
