03 Dec 2007 : Neil Roberts - Update

We have had encouraging news today regarding Neil Roberts' condition. He has been brought out of sedation, and can remember much of the events of Saturday. He is to be moved from intensive care to the high dependancy unit. Let's hope this is the start of a full and speedy recovery.

02 Dec 2007 : Neil Roberts - Update

Following Neil Roberts' blow to the head at the Abbey Hey match on Saturday, Neil was taken, by ambulance, to hospital with suspected concussion where he was sedated, underwent tests, and was subsequently admitted to intensive care. As of 21:30 on Sunday, Neil is still under sedation, and is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.

The members of the board's thoughts are with Neil and his family and friends at this time, and we are sure that the fans will join us in hoping for a full and speedy recovery. Get well soon Neil.

01 Dec 2007 : Runcorn beat Abbey Hey 2-5

At a cold Abbey Hey Stadium, the Linnets managed to put five past the hosts, four of which came from Thomas Lamb. The stadium suffered some vandalism the night before the match, but an inspection comfirmed that the match was on. Lamb put the Linnets ahead in 2nd minute, but it wasn't until the second half that the goals really started to rack up. Lamb scored again in the 48th, and got his hatrick ten minutes later. Francis Barry made it 0-4 in the 75th minute, but Abbey Hey scored two minutes later. Lamb got his fourth from the penalty spot in the 84th minute, and Abbey Hey got their second in the 88th.

Thomas Lamb was so happy at getting his four goals that he got into the festive spirit in the best way he knows how - by dusting off his elf suit...

25 Nov 2007 : Press Release - Board Elections

The club has issued a press release regarding the upcoming Board Elections.

In a week that sees the process of board elections for this year start in earnest, the Linnets turned around their recent bad fortune with a win over Atherton LR with a 90th minute goal from Michael Young. Runcorn had been unlucky not to have something to show for their domination of the second half, despite hitting the woodwork a couple of times, and having a goal disallowed for offside. It wasn’t until the dying seconds of the match, where Michael Young stepped up to take a free kick, over 25 yards out, and slotted it expertly into the top right corner to take the win, that the fans felt they could celebrate a potential reversal in recent form.

Trust members will be receiving their election voting packs this week which will allow them to vote for the five candidates they want to sit on the board of the club for the next two years. The club’s constitution mandates that a staggered system where half of the board is up for election each year should be implemented. Since this is the second year of elections, and all of the board members have served for just one year, those that are to stand down were chosen by drawing lots. Kel Hoose chose to stand down voluntarily, not intending to re-stand at the elections, which left four members to be selected at random.

The four board members who were elected to stand down were Derek Greenwood (Chairman), Lynn Johnston (Vice-secretary), Joanne Wilks (Financial Controller) and Glyn Davies (Commercial). All four are standing for re-election, along with new candidates, Simon Charlesworth, Barry Corless, and Jon Urquhart; making a total of seven nominees for five available places.

The vote will take place at the Trust AGM on 11th December, at the Quayside, on Canal Street.

The Runcorn Linnets Tote could very well reach its highest Jackpot figure this week. Estimates indicate that the prize fund will exceed £1,200 this week, surpassing the £1,168 won by Elizabeth Murphy in September. Tickets cost just £1, and all you have to do to win is successfully predict which will be the first two numbers pulled out of the National Lottery Draw on Saturday. They can be purchased online at www.RuncornLinnetsFC.co.uk/Tote or at a number of venues around the town; The Red Admiral, The Union Tavern, The Quayside, The Navigation, The Wellington, The New Dev, The Tricorn, Runcorn Sports Club, and The Halfway House. So far, the Tote has made nearly £3,000 for the club in its first six months of operation, and for every penny the club makes, the same amount goes into the prize fund.

One Runcorn fan who struck it lucky recently, but not by being so fortunate as to win the Tote, was 15 year old Gary Ratcliffe. Gary used the website to send an eMail to tell the club that despite not getting to matches as often as he would like, he’s still a “proud supporter”, and that he thought what had been done with the club was “great”. As luck would have it, one of the board members was planning to visit his home town of Crewe on business, and was able to drop off a programme and scarf as a thank you for the kind words in his eMail.

24 Nov 2007 : Runcorn beat Atherton LR 1-0

A superb Michael Young free kick in the closing seconds of the match clinched the victory for the Linnets who had been dominant for the whole of the second half, with the ball rarely venturing into the Runcorn end.
