11 Sep 2007 : Runcorn beat St Helens Town 1-3

In an improved performance from the Linnets, a win against St Helens Town secured an all important three points. Despite the Linnets having played 9 games prior to this match, almost a quarter of the season's matches in just a month, to Town's three, the first half was an energetic affair, with the Linnets looking strong, and communicating well. It wasn't until the second half when Dave Thompson scored from a Colin Flood throw-in in the 71st minute, which was quickly followed by a corker from Jay Edwards a couple of minutes later that Runcorn looked liked it was a done deal. Thomas Lamb made it three from a penalty in 79th, and as Runcorn perhaps lifted off the gas in the dying minutes, it allowed St Helens to score a consolation in the 89th. Final score was 1-3.

08 Sep 2007 : Runcorn lose to Nelson 1-2

An unfortunate own goal from Neil Roberts's misplaced header in the 23rd minute was Nelson's reward for applying pressure from the start. It wasn't until the 57th minute when Dave Thompson equalised that it looked as though Runcorn might get back into the game despite Nelson's physical style, but the visitors came straight back and scored what turned out to be the winner in the 59th.
