12 Jun 2023 : Seasoned campaigner Godwin Abadaki enlists with Billy's Army

Our latest aquisition Godwin Abadaki is a seasoned campaigner, who in 2022-23 made 31 appearances for the then Pitching In NPL Premier Division outfit Stalybridge Celtic, scoring twice.

Front man Godwin, 29, is Nigerian-born and played a couple of times for Rochdale in the EFL after coming through their youth system.

He was in the senior ranks at Spotland from 2011-14, during that period having loans at Hyde, Huddersfield Town, Southport, Stalybridge and Workington.

The move to Hyde was the most successful as Godwin made a 10-game, two-goal contribution to the Tigers' title success in Conference North (now National League North).

The 5ft 11 in player has also gained experience at most notably Northwich Victoria and Mossley (serving both clubs twice) and across the Pennines at Shaw Lane.

Godwin has more recently been with Buxton and Ramsbottom (at the latter, he was a team-mate of our now player-assistant manager, Jamie Rainford), after spells with Ashton United and Nantwich Town.

We warmly welcome Godwin to APEC Taxis Stadium, hoping he will soon settle in to his new surroundings and enjoy his football with us.

09 Jun 2023 : Joe Lynch joins Bayleigh Passant in the Linnets comeback club

Joe Lynch has re-signed for Runcorn Linnets in a move which will excite fans, given the impact he made in his previous spell with the club.

The midfielder was brought to the club by Calum McIntyre and became an influential figure in our 2021-22 play-off final squad.

So important, however, that Calum took him with him when he was appointed Chester manager last summer.

'Lynchy' appeared 23 times for the National League North outfit, scoring twice.

He is a tenacious and strong-running midfielder, who prior to joining Runcorn in summer 2021 played for Lower Breck in the North West Counties League.

Last time around, he was our first-choice penalty taker with six of his seven goals in 45 Linnets appearances coming from the spot.

Earlier in his career, a spell at Morecambe from July 2019 saw Joe quickly progress to first-team duty in the EFL Trophy.

Joe had previously been on contract at Crewe Alexandra, coming through their Academy and playing against Linnets in the Cheshire Senior Cup.

Joe is the second player to return to Linnets in a matter of days with Bayleigh Passant already back on board.

While away from us, Bayleigh had kept goal for Marine and was their hero in the penalty shootout win against Linnets in the Liverpool Senior Cup semi-final.

He was also successful in the NPL Play-off Final of 2022 when we were also Marine's opponents.

Both players were very popular in their first spells with the club and are assured of a very warm welcome on their comebacks to the club.

06 Jun 2023 : Defender Sam Barrett signs from Hanley Town

Runcorn Linnets have signed right back Sam Barrett from Hanley Town with the player looking to put an injury-wrecked 2022-23 season firmly behind him.

Sam had joined Hanley from Glossop North End in October last year but promptly suffered a dislocated shoulder.

He can now look forward to a fresh start with Linnets.

Sam had departed GNE, having made 39 appearances with two goals.

He had signed for the Hillmen in late August 2021, following his release from Fleetwood Town and a short spell with Leek Town.

The move to Hanley took him back to his native Potteries, where he'd begun his youth career with Stoke City prior to a two-year spell in the Academy at Fleetwood.

Welcome to Linnets, Sam. We hope you enjoy your stay.

02 Jun 2023 : There's much more to come from ton-up midfielder Louis Hayes

Louis Hayes has committed himself to the Linnets cause for next season.

It is another major boost for recently-appointed manager Billy Paynter as he continues to plan for his first full season in charge at APEC Taxis Stadium.

Louis is a very important member of the Runcorn engine room with his highly- dependable and non-stop midfield displays. Now in his fifth year with the club, Louis joined us from Chester FC back in November 2019 and has performed with great consistency ever since, very rarely dropping his high standards.

2022-23 season saw Louis complete 100 appearances in the Yellow & Green. We're sure there will be many more to follow.

28 May 2023 : Ex-skipper Peter Wylie is back in the Yellow & Green

Former club captain Peter Wylie has come home to join Runcorn Linnets after a year away with City of Liverpool FC - and it's great to have him back!

A key figure in Runcorn Linnets' defence over four Northern Premier League seasons, Peter was skipper and longest-serving player in the squad, which reached the 2021-22 Pitching In Northern Premier League West Play-off Final.

That proved to be the farewell appearance of his first Linnets spell.

But he will pick up his career in the Yellow & Green after topping the 2022-23:appearances chart at CoLFC. He played for the Purps 44 times, scoring twice, and was Players' Player of the Year.

Peter's Linnets stats to date are 114 appearances (106 starts) with three goals.

He originally joined us from Marine for our second game of 2018-19 against Chasetown - our first NPL home fixture after promotion - and made himself a regular in the side through his accomplished displays.

Peter's experience and versatility were a bonus - Peter has played for us at full back, centre back and in midfield.

He also had two spells at Skelmersdale United but began his career at Blackburn Rovers, featuring in their FA Youth Cup side.

Peter joined Stalybridge Celtic in March 2015, making 55 appearances for their National League North team, before returning to Skem from where he joined Marine in 2017.
