Goals from Thomas Lamb, Mike Young, and Dave Thompson in the last ten minutes of a first half dominated by Runcorn saw the Linnets go into half time 0-3 up. Darwen obviously got a talking to in the break, and their lacklustre first half performance wasn't repeated, and they looked much stronger. A goal in the 50th minute gave them some hope, but Runcorn were able to hold them off until the final whistle.

In a top of the title clash that saw Winsford take the lead of the table from Runcorn, Winsford beat Runcorn by two goals to one at Wincham Park.

Despite having most of the chances, Runcorn were only able to get ahead following a Thomas Lamb penalty in the first half. Norton scored the equaliser shortly into the second half, and then Dave Thompson scored the winner, before being sent off, leaving the final score at 1-2.
