18 Oct 2006 : Runcorn Linnets look forward to top of table derby

The club has issued a press release about their match against Winsford United.

Runcorn Linnets FC are hosting a top of the table clash against Winsford United on Tuesday 24th October. Regardless of what happens in the matches at the weekend Runcorn and Winsford will still have the two highest scores in North West Counties Division Two, even if they don't occupy the two top spots due to goal difference.

In continued efforts to ensure that the club is rooted within the Runcorn community, despite having to play outside of the town, over 800 free tickets to the match have been given to Runcorn schools so that the children of Runcorn can attend the match without having to pay the usual £2 entrance fee. As part of the same scheme, Olivia Bailey of year seven at The Heath Specialist Technology College won tickets to see the England v Macedonia match at Old Trafford by designing the best Runcorn Linnets FC poster a couple of weeks ago.

Winsford are the closest team to the Linnets' temporary home at Wincham Park in Witton, with their ground being only seven miles away, and so with both teams at the top of the league it should be a great derby match.

Runcorn's recent matches have both been cup games, and have had mixed results. Last Thursday, Runcorn beat Witton Albion Reserves 10-2 in the Mid Cheshire Cup, but couldn't repeat their dominant performance on Saturday against Holker Old Boys in the North West Counties Challenge Cup, losing 2-1 in extra time.

The match against Winsford United takes place on 24th October, at Wincham Park, Witton, with a 7:45pm kick-off. Prices are £5 for adults, £2 for children. The club hopes for a bumper crowd, so bring your shirts, flags, air-horns and drums to give the stadium a great carnival atmosphere!

But then the goals from Runcorn started coming, and by half time it was 6-1. The scorers were Lamb (4), Thompson, Newell, Scott, Morgan, Edwards, and J Swales.
