04 Mar 2005 : McGinn Commits Future To Runcorn
Runcorn FC Halton midfielder Matty McGinn has confirmed that he will be staying with the Linnets after turning down a move to fellow Nationwide North side Southport.
McGinn, who will make his 100th start for Runcorn in Saturday’s game against Gainsborough Trinity, has been linked to Southport for the last few months, but has now told Runcorn manager Steve Soley that he wants to stay at Runcorn for the rest of this season and beyond.
Soley confirmed, “Matty has committed his future to the club. He has told me that he is really enjoying his football at the moment and that he does not see any reason to move elsewhere.
“He can see that we are in the process of good, young squad here at Runcorn, and he knows that he will be a central part of that squad. Matty is well popular with both the Runcorn fans and his teammates, and I am delighted with the decision he has made”.

02 Mar 2005 : Durkan placed On Transfer List
Runcorn FC Halton have today transfer listed experienced right-sided midfielder Kieran Durkan.
31-year old Durkan, who was capped at under-21 level by the Republic of Ireland, has spent most of his career in the Football League having played for Wrexham, Stockport and Macclesfield. He spent last season at Second Division side Swansea City, before joining hometown club Runcorn in July 2004.
Runcorn manager Steve Soley said, “Kieran needs first team football at this stage of his career, and he is frustrated at not getting the opportunities at Runcorn. A change of club now may be in his best interests with a third of the season still to go.
“I was actually surprised when I came to the club and found that Kieron was here. He is capable of playing at a much higher level than Nationwide North, and I would not be surprised if a League One or League Two side came in for him.
“Keiron is mainly a right winger but can play in a variety of positions, and will be a valuable asset to whatever club he goes.”
Any clubs that are interested in Durkan should contact Runcorn Manager Steve Soley direct.
22 Feb 2005 : Runcorn draw with Altrincham 3-3
In a hum-dinger of a typical no-love-lost confrontation between Runcorn and their long time rivals Altrincham, the short flurry of snow did little to cool the atmosphere at Moss Lane. The final tally was 3 goals a piece, with two goals from Nicky Young, and one from Phil Denney.

After the break, Altrincham looked a lot more feisty, and scored two goals within 5 minutes of each other after 55 minutes, putting them in the lead. Altrincham scorer Colin Little was sent off following an altercation with Barry Jones, amidst suggestion that Jones had feigned injury and had played for the sending off. A Nicky Young goal just minutes before full time salvaged the point for Runcorn.
