26 Jan 2005 : Carlisle Too Hot For Linnets
Former Football League side Carlisle United cruised into the Fourth Round of the GLS Cup after a comfortable 5-2 victory over the Linnets at the Halton Stadium. Former Bury manager Andy Preece was the hero for Carlisle, grabbing four goals including a 22-minute first half hat-trick. Nicky Young scored for Runcorn to make it 3-1, and Robbie Moore netted his first for the club to make it 4-2, but a last minute Brendan McGill goal sealed it for the Cumbrians. Full Report to follow.
24 Jan 2005 : Management Team Released
Runcorn FC Halton have today announced the news that the Managerial Team of Alvin McDonald and Peter Carroll have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.
The financial constraints at the club have meant a review of various aspects of the club’s present structures.
The club would like to place on record its thanks for the work done by Alvin and Peter since their appointments, and wish them both the best of luck with any future managerial careers that they may undertake.
Steve Carragher and Steve Soley will be in charge of team affairs in a caretaker role for the immediate future starting with the GLS National Conference cup tie against Carlisle Utd at the Halton Stadium on Tuesday 25 January.
22 Jan 2005 : Runcorn beat Alfreton Town 1-0
A back on form Runcorn managed to end a seven game spell without a league win against 7th place Alfreton. Ged Courtney scored in the 58th minute, and that was enough to earn the much needed 3 points. However, the score at half time could well have been 3-0 if the chances in the first half had been capitalised upon, and would have been a fair result based on the run of the play.
Alfreton were stronger in the second half, but Runcorn still looked in control and played good football. Match Report
14 Jan 2005 : Player updates
The latest news on players is that Carl Brown has been released to return to Gresley Rovers which is also covered on the Non League daily. Carl Furlong's registration with the club has been terminated and Peter Ellis after announcing his retirement due to his chronic injuries has, on his insistence, requested his registration be cancelled which the Club has agreed to.
The injury situation seems to have abated at the moment with only flu victim Steve Soley out of action at this time with a calf strain. Carl Rendell is also a flu victim.
08 Jan 2005 : Runcorn lose to Moor Green 2-1
Runcorn went ahead with a Griff Jones goal after 8 minutes, which was equalised ten minutes later. With 25 minutes to play, Ashley Timms was deemed to have handled outside the area and was sent off. McMillan came on as sub, replacing goal scorer Jones. Ten minutes later, Moor Green went down to ten me following the second yellow card offence from one of their players.
Tom Spearritt missed a golden chance with just the keeper to beat, who was on the floor, just two minutes from time. Within 20 seconds, Moor Green has scored the final goal to take all three points.
Runcorn could have won, but probably would have been happy to take away a point for the draw, but the late Moor Green goal didn't give them the chance to demonstrate any bouncebackability, and clinch that much needed point.
