24 Apr 2004 : Runcorn finish in top 13 - Conference North, here we come!
Despite losing to Altrincham today, 1-0, the fact that Ashton were beaten by Harrogate 3-4 ensures a top 13 place for Runcorn, and secures a position in Conference North for next season.
Altrincham scored their goal in the first minute after McMillan failed to hold on to a free kick from outside the penalty area, and ended up falling back into the net with it. The rest of the first half didn't see either team with a clear advantage, but Runcorn were much stronger in the second half. Unfortunately, none of the chances we made could be converted into goals, but as far as qualification for Conference North is concerned, it was all academic, and with Ashton's result both Altrincham and Runcorn were guaranteed a place in the top 13.
