17 Aug 2002 : Runcorn lose to Accrington Stanley 2-1

A disappointing start to the season from Runcorn saw them beaten 2-1 by potential title favourites Accrington Stanley. A goal less than three minutes into the match put Runcorn under pressure, and this was doubled before the end of the first half.

After around 60 minutes, Accrington went down to 10 men after a bad tackle on Liam Watson. A short time later Mike Tomlinson was stretchered off with an ankle injury. Five minutes from time saw Chris Price get Runcorn's first goal of the season, and in extra time, Runcorn had a goal disallowed for offside.

Congratulations to Matty McNeil who has become the proud father of a baby boy.

10 Aug 2002 : Bamber Bridge fixture cancelled

The pre-season friendly against Bamber Bridge, due to be played today (Saturday 10th August), has been cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.

08 Aug 2002 : New Signings

Ex-Droylsden striker Wes Kinney and defender Mike Edwards from Widnes have been confirmed as joining the squad for this season.

08 Aug 2002 : Mike Tomlinson confirmed as Captain

Mike Tomlinson has been confirmed as team captain in replacement of Paul McNally who has gone to Marine this season. The vice-captaincy, occupied by Mike last season, will be taken up by Dominic Morley.
