25 Apr 2023 : Runcorn Linnets storm into second successive play-off final
Runcorn Linnets made it into the Pitching In Northern Premier League West play-off final for a second consecutive season by defeating the league runners-up Leek Town away from home.
In a game reminiscent of last season's semi, likewise at Harrison Park, Linnets turned in an outstanding team display to triumph 3--1.
Lewis Doyle and Eden Gumbs struck in the 11th and 20 minutes and a 2-0 lead was the very least Linnets deserved at half-time.
Leek hauled them back into the contest as Tim Grice struck from a free-kick seven minutes after the restart. But the game was still in its 52nd minute when Ryan Brooke pounced to prod home on the rebound to restore the two-goal cushion.
Linnets will travel to Workington for the final on Saturday, the Cumbrians having beaten visiting Clitheroe 2-0.
The winners will be promoted to the NPL Premier Division.
